Vedalam Review & Trade Prospects
Vedalam starring Ajith and Shruti Hassan directed by Veeram Siva is one of the most expected movies of 2015. Music is composed by young talent Anirudh Ravichander. Vedalam is Am Rathnam’s 3rd consecutive production with Ajith in the lead.
The movie opens well in first half with director Siva’s trademark mass elements. Ajith’s intro scene is simple and mass. Veera Vinayaka song is ‘Their Mass’ with colourful visuals. Comedy scenes with Mottai Rajendiran and Soori have come out well. Boat fighting scene and interval block are the highlights of the first half. As always Thala steals the show. If we have to summarize first half in one word we would call it #Theri.
2nd half starts slow, draggy at times but the crisp screen play and the outstanding performance by Thala and cast keeps the audience engaged. Shruti Hassan whose looking for her first solid Tamil hit has done an excellent job. Simply put it's Ajith's best movie in recent times.
Trade Prospects:
The movie will be performing well in A centres due to Ajith’s mass fan following. Vedalam will also appeal B & C centre audience as well. Festival advantage should make it a 'Hit'.
Overseas the movie needs Rs 22 Cr to breakeven, with record screens and outstanding advance bookings, the movie should surly do well and emerge as Thala’s 4thconsecutive Hit overseas.
Final Verdict: It’s Thala Deepavali….Pakka Paisa Vasool Family Entertainer
Out Rating: ★★★☆☆ [3/5]
